Migration from Oracle MySQL to MariaDB

This release of Network Security Platform contains infrastructure change in the Manager database. The Manager database previously used Oracle MySQL. Starting with this release, the Manager database uses MariaDB. The functionality and the operation of the database remains the same with MariaDB.

Note: The Manager uses MariaDB version 10.3.13 and J-connector version 2.4.0.

Following are a few considerations before you proceed with the installation of the Manager with MariaDB:

  • McAfee recommends you to use the Central Manager version 9.1.7.77 to manage the Manager version 9.1.7.77.
  • The Central Manager version 9.2.7.31 and below, and 9.2.9.8 and below cannot manage the Manager version 9.1.7.77.
  • The Central Manager/Manager versions 8.1, 8.3, and 9.1 with MySQL can upgrade to Central Manager/Manager version 9.1.7.77 with MariaDB.
  • Backup taken from MySQL database can be restored in MariaDB.
  • In case of a new installation of the Manager, the default location for the database will be C:\Program Files\McAfee\Network Security Manager\MariaDB.
  • In case of an upgrade, the database will be in the same folder as the previous installation. For example, C:\Program Files\McAfee\Network Security Manager\MySQL.
Note: Starting with Manager version 9.1.7.77, McAfee will no longer release any hotfixes for previous Manager versions with MySQL database vulnerabilities. Hotfixes with vulnerability fixes for Manager version 9.1.7.77 and above with MariaDB only will be provided.

Linux based Manager kernel upgrade

Previously, the Linux based Manager/Central Manager used kernel version 4.9. Starting with this release, the Linux based Manager/Central Manager uses kernel version 4.19. You can see the kernel version used in the Linux based Manager on executing show system info command in the Manager shell.
