Common Catalog

Use this page to edit or delete definitions, to create new definitions, and to view which rules and policies include a selected definition.

Option Definition
Catalog Drop-down list to select the catalog being viewed or edited.
Common Catalog panes The left pane displays the definition categories in the selected catalog.

When you select a category, the definition details are displayed in the right pane.

Definition Category Description
File Type Lists File types lists are often used as filters in defining rules and policies. Common Catalog provides the options to create and maintain lists of file types for use in these rules and policies.
String Supplies rules and definitions with data of type string for lists, metadata matches, and so forth.
Wildcard Expression Several McAfee products use text patterns to classify file content. Commonly used wildcard expressions identifying these text patterns can be maintained in lists within Common Catalog.
Domain Name Domain names are used in products that enforce internet-related rules and bypass lists. Use Common Catalog to create and maintain these lists.
Email Address List Lists of email addresses are often used by McAfee products. Create and maintain these lists within Common Catalog.

Lists can contain email addresses, email domains, and email display names.

Network Address (IP) Create and maintain lists of network addresses within Common Catalog for use by products that include network-related protection rules and policies.
Network Port Create and maintain lists of network ports within Common Catalog for use by products that include network-related protection rules and policies.
Process Name List Create lists of computer processes.

By grouping several processes in a single process name definition, you can simplify definitions applying to multiple processes.

URL List Uniform Resource Locator definitions (URLs) are used in products that enforce internet-related protection rules and policies. Use Common Catalog to create and maintain these lists.
Note: The categories that appear in the left pane vary depending on the McAfee products you have installed with ePolicy Orchestrator.

Option Definition
Show selected rows Condenses long lists for easier review.
Edit Opens the selected definition for editing. This action is not displayed until one or more definitions have been created.
Delete Deletes the selected definition. This action is not displayed until one or more definitions have been created.
Note: If a catalog is in use, you cannot delete any lists within it. On clicking Delete, a dialog box confirming the product name, the type, and the name of the component is displayed. Click Edit on the Cannot delete dialog box to deselect the catalog from being used, before then deleting the list.
Usage Opens a page that lists all rules and policies using the selected definition. This action is not displayed until one or more definitions have been created.
Actions Opens a pop-up menu where you can create a New item for the selected catalog, or to Edit or Delete the selected item.

For users that only have the view permission set configured, you can also View the content of the selected catalog item.
