How Client Proxy works

Using location-awareness settings, Client Proxy protects the computers of end users in your organization, whether they are located inside or outside your network.

Client Proxy software redirects, blocks, or lets pass web traffic and network communications according to the policy you configure and location of the endpoint computer.

Figure 1. Client Proxy workflow

When an end user is working inside your organization's network, Client Proxy software:

  1. Recognizes that the end user is working inside your organization's network
  2. Remains passive, allowing web traffic and network communications to pass to Web Gateway for filtering

When an end user is working outside your organization's network, Client Proxy software:

  1. Recognizes that the end user is working outside your organization's network
  2. Redirects all web traffic and network communications to the McAfee WGCS service
